DMA's DAMAZING
Published
Currently on tour in the UK and Europe tonight Britpop revivalists DMAs are here to promote new single Lay Down, giving us a taste of whats to come for the first time since they dropped their 90's fuelled self titled mini album in May.
As we walk into tonights venue its no surprise its sold out, the Aussie band have been creating a buzz in the UK since their shows at Great Escape earlier in the year. What turned out to be going to see an Aussie britpop band for a laugh has now turned into seeing one of the best new bands around at the moment.
They swagger on to the stage looking like teenage Liam Gallagher’s that have been styled in Goldie’s old cast offs, and hang on isn't that Sean from This Is England, oh no, that's lead singer Tommy! Launching straight into Feels Like 37 they whip the hyped crowd at the front into frenzy. Followed by Too Soon & Your Low and into Lay Down in which dopey eyed lead singer Tommy drools "Shiver in the morning rain my eyes will drift away with you, lay down give me something new". Definitely an anthem for the indie kids of 2015!
The band mixed the dynamic up by returning to their core three members of Johnny Tuck, Tommy O'Dell and Matt Mason to run through an acoustic 'So You Know' and one of the definite 'moments' of the set when 'Delete' was played slowing building up to it's peak when the rest of the band skip back on to run through a sure fire couple of hits, 'Laced 'and 'Play it Out'.
Tonight's crowd is made up of those who were there to enjoy Britpop the first time round, and those who are now discovering what it was all about, and in the days of all the 90s band doing half arsed reunion tours for a few quid, DMAs are where you are going to get your most authentic Britpop fix right now.
