A Zorbing, Energetic, Jumpathon

As Autumn comes around in Manchester, The Warehouse Project takes over the city’s nightlife for twelve weeks. The addition of a Major Lazer gig presented by Warehouse certainly got people’s attention and those who managed to get a ticket certainly won’t have been disappointed.
Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire put on a show to get pulses racing and sweat dripping. Playing their eclectic mix of dancehall, reggae, pop and everything in between, this bonanza of sound and smoke was just what the crowd had been hoping for. ‘Watch Out For This (Bumaye)’ and ‘Get Free’ were expected highlights whilst the shamelessly poppy ‘Lean On’ was a brilliant finishing flourish.
The change of tune for their most recent album may not have enamoured the most hardcore of Major Lazer fans but those in attendance didn’t care a jot. The crowd came for a party and the boys on stage were more than happy to provide it. With House of Pain’s ‘Jump Around’ and Dr Dre’s west coast beats mixing in with electronic anthems it remains clear that the trio are as determined as ever to do things their way. Given the way that the crowd were belting out everything from Ellie Goulding to Skepta, I think it is safe to say they approved.
If you have been to a Major Lazer gig before then you may know their party pieces but the surreal charm of Diplo running over your head in a human hamster ball doesn’t fade. The confetti cannons and enthusiastic use of the smoke machines amp up the energy and keep the crowd jumping all the way to the end. When it comes to a Major Lazer gig you know what you’re going to get and I can only hope they keep on dishing it out.
WHP is definitely an experience not to be missed. You may be too late for Major Lazer but warehouse project continues to the end of the year, and with names like Annic Mac, Run The Jewels and New Order, 2015 is the year to go.
