The View are on fire
Published
The View are back with their 5th studio album Ropewalk produced by Albert Hammond Jn (The Strokes) and tonight they are halfway through their UK Tour
The venue isn’t at capacity tonight but that doesn’t matter because they have one of the most loyal fan bases around. That is evident here as they are causing general mayhem and making the venue heavy with excitement. As 9pm breaks the chanting gets louder ‘The View, The View, The View are on fire’ and the band come onstage to huge applause and kick things off with old favourite’s ‘Shock Horror’, ‘5 Rebecca’s’, ‘Wasted little DJ’s’ and ‘Tragic Magic’ and the crowd are singing along word for word. New tracks ‘Marriage’ and ‘Under the Rug’ are met with equal love from the crowd and wouldn’t be out of place in a greatest hits set.
Tonight feels like The View have cleaned themselves up and managed to hone their sound to one which is polished while keeping some of that roughness and youthful energy they’ve always had. It’s a sound that encapsulates cut lips, broken guitar strings and experience of 100’s of crazy live shows.
They are a band that seem to strongly divide opinion and are often tarred with the ‘lad rock’ brush, however it’s not just your lairy lads here tonight the venue is made up of people from all walks of life and there is lot of love for the band on stage.
The View have been a constant over their 5 albums peaking every now and then but you get the feeling they are here to stay and it will only take another catchy single to get them selling out shows again.
Let’s hope they never grow old.
