Marmozets Live; Words Do Not Do Them Justice

Marmozets have already had a pretty impressive 2014. From shows at Download and Glastonbury and two slots each at Reading and Leeds they’ve made quite the name for themselves, all before the release of their debut album. Having now released their debut album that has been praised everywhere, Marmozets have nowhere to go but up – starting with a co-headline UK tour with Lonely the Brave.

Describing a Marmozets live show adequately through words alone is impossible – there aren’t enough words to convey the overwhelming energy and presence of this band. Set opener "Born Young and Free" is just so powerful that a previously motionless crowd are all forced off their feet, a phenomenon that grows stronger throughout the set.

As if Marmozets’ music isn’t satisfying enough, the beauty of the band’s live show is the otherworldly charisma of front-woman Becca. Fascinating to watch and inspiring to listen to, there’s nothing quite like it. Add to that the terrifying faces she makes every few minutes (possibly from exhaustion) and you have something special.

Playing a set consisting entirely of songs from the debut album, highlights include "Captivate You", a song which translates significantly better live when a sold out crowd sings every word in unison, and "Move Shake Hide", which causes people to start bouncing off walls and each other – Becca included – in a sea of chaos.

Becca scales the bar for closing song "Vibetech", the ‘gateway’ song between old and new Marmozets. Highly technical and consisting of awkward time sequences like the band’s old music, "Vibetech" somehow maintains the same degree of melody as the rest of the album and makes for a perfect set closer.

People walk away from a Marmozets show dripping with sweat, which is exactly how it should be. Impossible to describe adequately with just words, the band’s live presence is crazy – and it’s only going to get better and better. Catch Marmozets in a small venue while you still can, there’s nothing quite like it!
