Frank Carter Defines 'Frontman' In His Borderline Show
Published
Former Gallows and Pure Love front man Frank Carter brought his new band, The Rattlesnakes, to The Borderline this week for the launch of their new album ‘Blossom.’ Despite having only been together for seven months, the show was a total sell-out.
It took all of half a note of the first song for the mosh pit to get going and the stage diving to begin, so while Carter did let the crowd know that “our stage is your stage”, it was pretty clear that this encouragement wasn’t really needed.
'Blossom' is an emphatic debut for the band, and tearing through the album’s lead singles “Fangs” and “Juggernaut” it was clear that what the group lacked in experience they more than made up for in songmanship and energy. It didn’t take long before the band were in amongst the crowd themselves, with Carter performing nearly the whole of album track “Paradise” from a balcony in the crowd, with guitarist Dean Richardson crowdsurfing alongside him.
With news that the album currently sat at number thirteen in the charts, there was a celebratory feel to the show, with friends and family joining the band on stage. There aren’t too many other bands whose manager would take over on drums, or where the lead singer’s younger brother would take his position so that they could jump in to the crowd!
After a reprise of “Fangs”, the night ended on “I Hate You”, with the crowd chanting “I hate you and I wish you would die” as the band left, not the reception you’d normally expect for a band that have just given the crowd the time of their life.
If you look up the word ‘frontman’ in the dictionary there really ought to just be a picture of Frank Carter. It seems unlikely that that will happen any time soon, so in the meantime he’ll have to console himself with being one of the best showmen around, in a band with plenty to look forward to.
