Dope Body Thrash It Out In Front Of UnExpecting Crowd

Tonight Dope Body are the meat in a synth pop sandwich, pitted between the wholly uninspiring sound of Du Blonde and the ecstatic dad dancing of Future Islands. Not the bill you would normally associate with a hardcore band from Baltimore, yet Dope Body seem to take it all in their stride. Taking to the stage earlier than planned they catch this heaving mass off guard, and due to Future Islands current popularity it appears that every man and his dog has turned out this evening.

As the heaving mass of all comers looks on bewildered, vocalist Andrew throws himself about the stage screaming his lyrics. With the removal of his shirt Andrew looks like a young Iggy Pop, and his onstage actions show that he is eager to emulate the great man. Profusely sweating as he and the rest of the band plough through this intense set of quality hardcore.

Through the haze of the pounding drums and the intricate guitar riffs Dope Body prove themselves and provide a thrill unlike any other, from their opening track we’re breathless just watching. There’s energy, an uncontrollable harshness and an angst, which oozes from every incendiary blast. In any other setting a set like this would set any crowd alight and have them whipped into complete frenzy.

Whilst this may not be the case for this sanitised mainstream crowd, Dope Body play this show like they would any other, as they leave everything on stage. Regardless of whether they impressed any of the onlookers tonight, they put on one of the best shows we’ve seen in a long time. As far as we’re concerned it was all over too soon.

We stuck around for some of Future Islands set, despite rocketing to prominence in a relatively short space of time. They put on a wholly entertaining set; there was an obvious emphasis on Herring’s dancing and a variety of songs from their latest LP Singles, which set the crowd at ease after Dope Body’s incredible onslaught.
