Sea Girls Set The Standard At London's Sebright Arms

“Sea Girls are an awesome new band”... is a big opening statement when introducing a new band on the scene in London. However this opinion is justified once you have seen them live or even heard some of their tracks. Previously featured on Subba-Cultcha's New Music Snapshot back in April, Sea Girls have since then gained a keen following of young indie music lovers.

Playing in the basement of The Sebright Arms for their first live gig together, it’s safe to say there are nerves and a sense of uncertainty as Sea Girls are very very fresh. However, with confident and charismatic lead singer Henry Camamile, the band look like they belong on stage and together with their long hair and cool style convey a band you want to be a part of.

Getting straight into their set, Sea Girls opening tracks are bouncy, upbeat and fun- drawing the crowd in and not letting them go. The intimate venue has now literally become a sea of girls dancing and singing, looking behind me the venue is basically full and to think that this is Sea Girls first gig is amazing. Performing more softer and mellow tracks, Sea Girls still manage to maintain the attention of the crowd; with no one nipping off to the bar or having a chit chat, the attention these guys have maintained is something a band of great experience can do.

The skills Sea Girls have as a band are spot on, though drummer Oliver Khan usually shines more light on other aspects of a band the drumming was so on point and the musicality of the band as a whole was faultless. It may seem that for a band’s first gig there would be some errors or mishaps but despite a few technical issues at the start Sea Girls ultimately blew me away.

The peak of the gig was single “Kiss Me” which a great percentage of the crowd knew far too well and proved that with good talent the demand will be immense. Sea Girls left the stage with a huge support of smiles and applause, even chants of “one more song”. Sea Girls definitely set the standards for new and upcoming bands in London, so take note newbies and watch out for Sea Girls.
